A review of my decade
Here's a quick note of what I did - or more accurately, most of the time, didn't do - from 2000-2009.
2000 - was at University (Hull) studying politics.
2001 - graduated (2:1, just). Got a job in Birmingham at NatWest bank, haven't decided not to take a place at Homerton to train to be a teacher.
2002 - still in Birmingham, still at NatWest. Not much happening.
2003 - Moved to Ely, started working in the Computing Services department at Cambridge Uni. Started Palimpsest.
2004 - Moved to King's Lynn, got a job as a Benefits Assessor at the local council. Few months later got a promotion to work in scrutiny. Started blogging.
2005 - Met the future Mrs Briggs. Got engaged. Became a business analyst at Warwickshire County Council.
2006 - Moved to Wales. Got a job at Shropshire County Council as Risk Manager (I know, I know...). Got married. Launched LGSearch.
2007 - Various mishaps involving cars. Got a new job at the information authority - my first job which officially had anything to do with websites. Moved to Kettering.
2008 - Helped with the first UK Gov Barcamp and started to get noticed. Left my job to go freelance. Moved to Cottenham, just outside Cambridge.
2009 - plenty of work freelancing. Meet the Learning Pool guys for the first time, start work on a part time basis with them.
So, in summary: lots of jobs and lots of house moves. Here's hoping the next 10 years will be a bit calmer on both of those scores.
